Jim Rodgers recalls fond memories of going to the Minors

I always enjoyed going to the Strand Cinema on a Saturday morning with my older sister Renee to the Minors.

We lived within walking distance of the Picture House and on our way always met some of our school friends. Hundreds went every week and had an enjoyable time.

It was great fun and the films along with the entertainment was absolutely brilliant.

Most weeks the Cinema was packed to capacity with the vast majority of young people coming from East Belfast

We would purchase our soft drinks, crisps and sweets on arrival at reception and settle down to a great morning of entertainment.

Those were days we have never forgotten and the facilities in the Holywood Road venue were absolutely first class.

I sometimes wonder could the Strand not try and do something similar today despite all the entertainment we have in our homes and elsewhere.
